Utah DNR showcases K-9s’ role in solving wildlife poaching cases

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — At the annual Western Hunting & Conservation Expo in Salt Lake City, the Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR) showcased a demonstration of their K-9s’ skills and explained how the dogs assist in solving wildlife poaching cases.

Law enforcement officers from the DNR are responsible for protecting Utah`s fish and wildlife and enforcing hunting and fishing regulations across the state. One way they accomplish this is by working with K-9s.

During the demonstration, ABC4.com spoke with Josh Carver, a K-9 officer with the DNR. Carver talked about his K-9, Rooster, and the DNR program.

“It’s kind of a unique program because it’s different than a lot of the other programs. We’re allowed to select a puppy and then start [training] that dog as soon as we get them,” said Carver…
