Childcare bill passes committee meeting after council votes to eliminate funding

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — The Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Standing Committee met to discuss the future of county funded daycares in the Salt Lake area.

This discussion comes after Salt Lake County Council voted to eliminate funding for licensed childcare, starting May 31, 2026.

S.B. 248, the Child Care Expansion Act, enacts an employer-based, state-assisted childcare expansion program to make quality childcare in the state more available.
