Updates announced for LDS temples in Brazil, the Philippines, Texas, South Dakota

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced some updates for multiple planned temples, including groundbreaking dates for the Teresina Brazil Temple and locations of three temples in the Philippines.

Groundbreaking services for the Teresina Brazil Temple will be held on Saturday, April 18, with Elder Ciro Schmeil, first counselor in the Brazil Area Presidency, presiding. The Teresina Brazil Temple was announced in April 2023 by President Russell M. Nelson, and plans call for the temple to be approximately 25,420 square feet.

The temple will be located on a 3.60-acre site at Avenida Cajuína and Rua Pedro Conde, Noivos, Teresina, Piauí. Brazil currently has 11 dedicated and operating temples, and 13 additional temples have been announced or are under construction.

Over 1.5 million Latter-day Saints live in Brazil, meeting in over 2,000 congregations.
