Update: Mulch fire continues burning in Woods Cross; smoke impacting visibility on roadways, neighborhoods

WOODS CROSS, Utah, Feb. 25, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters continuing to battle a stubborn mulch and slash pile fire in Woods Cross that began late Monday and continued burning Tuesday, sending smoke into nearby neighborhoods and affecting visibility on surrounding roads.

South Davis Metro Fire crews were dispatched at 10:43 p.m. Monday to a smoke investigation near 500 South and Redwood Road. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a large mulch pile burning at a landscaping yard and upgraded the response to a full assignment, according to the South Davis Fire Department.

The fire, located at 1550 West 500 South, proved difficult to extinguish due to its deep-seated origin and a mix of light, moderate and heavy timber within the slash pile, officials said.
