Saputo USA recalls Great Value cottage cheese due to possible health risk

SALT LAKE CITY — Three types of Walmart Great Value brand cottage cheese products were voluntarily recalled by Saputo Cheese USA Inc. due to a possible health risk, the Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday.

The affected products include:

  • The Great Value fat-free small curd cottage cheese – 0% milk fat, 24-oz. container
  • The Great Value low-fat small curd cottage cheese – 2% milk fat, 24-oz. container
  • The Great Value small curd cottage cheese – 4% milk fat, minimum 16-oz., 24-oz. and 3-lb. containers

Saputo, one of the top 10 dairy processors in the world, announced Tuesday that there is a possibility that the dairy ingredients used were not fully pasteurized. Saputo came upon the issue during pasteurizer troubleshooting exercises. The impacted pasteurizer was fixed, and no other products produced in the facility were affected.

Utah is one of the 24 states to which the products were distributed. Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Washington and Wyoming also had products distributed…
