One critically injured after being shot by police on SB I-15 near Bangerter Highway

DRAPER, Utah (ABC4) — One person was critically injured after being shot by police on southbound I-15. The officer-involved shooting led to significant lane closures, which have since reopened.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, an officer with the Riverton Police Department (RPD) conducted a traffic stop on southbound I-15 just before the Bangerter Highway exit around 4:30 p.m. During that traffic stop, a male passenger allegedly engaged in an altercation with the RPD officer.

The RPD officer discharged their service firearm, hitting the male passenger. Officials reportedly immediately administered medical treatment, and the male passenger was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition…
