Crews respond to courthouse after explosive threat, discovery of mystery substance

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 11, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City police and fire crews remained on the scene for more than three hours Wednesday after the discovery of a mystery substance in an envelope and a possible threat of explosives in the John Baxter Courthouse, at 333 S. 200 East.

“An envelope was received at the courthouse that contained a green, powder substance,” Sgt. Greg Wilking, Salt Lake City Police, told Gephardt Daily.

“We’re in the process of testing that, and then there was a vague threat of a bomb. So once we’re done testing the substance, we’re going to clear the building and make sure that it’s safe.”…
