PARLEYS CANYON, Utah (ABC4) — Thursday morning, the Salt Lake County Health Department and other agencies cleaned up camps along a section of Parleys Canyon following reports of illegal camping.
According to the Health Department, they’ve been receiving some reports of human waste, drug paraphernalia, and other debris along a section of Parleys Canyon due to illegal camping, and with the intention of protecting community and environmental health, multiple agencies came together to clean it up.
This sort of debris can also present a fire hazard in addition to threatening community and environmental health.

In the weeks leading up to the cleanup, the department advised people living in the camps to move their belongings before March 18, and social services reportedly visited the campsites several times to make sure the people living there were aware of resources available to them, like referrals for housing, employment, and substance use.
