Salt Lake City felon indicted for firearm crime after downtown shooting

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A federal grand jury has indicted a 40-year-old Salt Lake City man for a firearm crime following a shooting outside a downtown bar.

Angelo Mark Garcia, initially charged by complaint on March 19, 2026, allegedly opened fire outside the bar on March 14, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m., according to court documents. The driver, identified as Garcia, and his passenger had red-brown stains on their clothing and appeared to have been in a recent altercation. A preliminary search revealed a firearm under the front passenger seat, leading to the seizure of a Glock 19 9mm semi-automatic pistol after obtaining a search warrant. Multiple 9mm casings were recovered at the shooting scene, and video footage allegedly shows Garcia firing into the air and then at several individuals. A second person was later found to have been shot during the incident.

As a previously convicted felon, Garcia is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. He is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, with his initial court appearance scheduled for April 3, 2026, at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City…
