West Valley City man, 20, indicted for manslaughter in shooting of brother

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, May 9, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Valley City man has been indicted for manslaughter after shooting his brother when they “were messing around with a handgun.”

A charging document for Kevin Flores Villa, 20, says that officers were dispatched to the residence after Flores Villa called to say that he and his brother, identified in the document as L.F.V., were playing with the handgun. Flores Villa said he “didn’t realize the magazine was in the handgun, he cocked the slide back, and accidentally pulled the trigger.

“The handgun fired and a bullet struck his brother, L.F.V. in the head. L.F.V. was pronounced dead. Dispatch was told that the handgun was moved to a different bedroom and was under a mattress.”…
