West Valley City volunteers build an all-abilities inclusive playground in a day

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Volunteers from West Valley City, in partnership with 200 employees with the Integrity Foundation, started the endeavor to build an entire all-abilities playground — from the ground up— in a single day.

A 40-year-old play area in the city is being replaced with a fully inclusive playground with help from Integrity, a life and health insurance distributor, and there was a morning event with key leaders to show the impact the playground will have on the community.

Integrity said they have the nearly 7,000 square-foot area will feature sensory-rich elements. A fully artificial turf surface is donated by them as well. The turf is designed so children of all abilities can be involved on the playground.

The ADA standards are expected to be “beyond compliance,” and the 39 accessible playground elements accommodate over 200 children.
