WEST JORDAN, Utah (KUTV) — A Utah school district’s decision to provide Walmart+ memberships to all employees is prompting some community members to question whether the money could be better spent on teacher salaries.
A viewer tip led 2News to the Jordan School District headquarters after the district approved the memberships for teachers and staff. Walmart+ memberships include free shipping and delivery, fuel discounts, and video streaming services. The retail membership typically costs about $100 annually.
With thousands of employees in the district, the total cost could reach hundreds of thousands of dollars, based on independent estimates.
“I think that just sounds like a band-aid,” resident Santiago Carlos said. “Why don’t we just pay the teachers more? Why don’t we pay them living salaries?”…
