Teen dead, 5-year-old among multiple shot in San Antonio’s East Side, SAPD says

A teen died while multiple others, including a 5-year-old child, were injured in a late-night shooting on the 4th of July in San Antonio. The San Antonio Police Department responded to a call for a shooting at about 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, at the 1700 block of Lamar Street.

“Upon officers arrival, they located multiple people with gunshot wounds outside of an apartment building,” the SAPD said in a preliminary report. Officials began an investigation as the San Antonio Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services started to take those injured to nearby hospitals. On-scene, officials were told “that several people that were walking near the area” started to fire rounds at a home that resulted in “striking several individuals both inside and outside the residence.”

An 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead due to his injuries. Five other people with gunshot wounds were found at the scene and taken to local hospitals in critical condition, according to the report. Among them were five and 12-year-old children, both girls. The others injured included a woman, 41, and a man, 22, while a sixth shooting victim was unknown.

The SAPD said information on a suspected shooter is unknown at this time. “It is unknown what led up to the shooting at this time. Individuals were detained for further investigative purposes, but no arrests have been made thus far,” the SAPD added. The investigation remains ongoing…
