SAN ANTONIO – Rising fears about safety are spreading on the East Side after a July 4 mass shooting near Phillis Wheatley Park killed a teenager and wounded five other people, including two children.
The shooting happened Saturday night along North Mittman Street near the park. An 18-year-old was killed, and children ages 5 and 12 were among those hurt.
Neighbors said they are tired of the violence and are calling on police to do more. John Thomas, who has lived in the area his entire life, said, “It broke my heart, but my people can never come together, stand together, and stand for something….”…
