Walmart snaps up nearly 35 acres on booming Far Westside. Here’s where

San Antonio shoppers could soon see even more growth on the booming Far Westside, this time from a familiar retail giant that last opened a new location in the area a decade ago.

Walmart recently purchased land near the Kalliston Ranch subdivision off Culebra Road, according to Bexar County property records. Public records show that the Wal-Mart Real Estate Trust purchased 34.726 acres of land from the Kallison Ranch of Texas Limited Partnership LLP on July 21, 2026. The national grocery store chain has not yet confirmed whether it plans to build a new retail center on the property.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to better serve our customers and communities,” Walmart’s Southwest Business Unit communications director, Kim Cooper, shared with MySA. “At this time, we don’t have any further details to share.”

The Far Westside has become a hotbed for new developments in recent years, bringing more retail centers, traffic and housing to the area stretching from Loop 1604 all the way toward Castroville in Medina County, where new data centers and technology parks continue to spring up…
