The clock is ticking for San Antonio to prepare for a new vehicle inspection process. There are mounting fears of long lines of cars or getting hit with tickets if the city isn’t well prepared for its first year under the new system, or if more shops don’t step up to handle the case log.
Nearly 280 locations across Bexar County have been registered as inspection stations, qualified to conduct the required new emissions inspection test. But this nearly ties Bexar with Travis County, which has a smaller population and is still in need of another 150 to 250 sites.
It’s a new hurdle for any driver in San Antonio or Bexar County looking to renew their registration, starting November 1. There doesn’t seem to be a strong sense of urgency among county or state officials to prepare for the change.
