For much of the past five weeks, high pressure has dominated the forecast across South-Central Texas, resulting in bright sunshine and above-average temperatures nearly every day. The one exception came a week ago, when a severe thunderstorm brought flooding and widespread power outages across Bexar County.
Heading into the Labor Day weekend, a weak atmospheric disturbance over the Gulf Coast, combined with remnant moisture from Tropical Storm Edouard, may allow storm chances to return to the region.
If you have plans over the holiday weekend, the good news is that this is not expected to be a washout. In fact, most areas are likely to stay dry. However — like last Friday — a few storms could bring isolated downpours, frequent lightning, and strong wind gusts. Here’s what you can expect.
Friday’s forecast
A very warm start is expected in San Antonio Friday morning as temperatures are likely to hover near 80 degrees between 6 and 9 a.m. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are also expected, becoming sunnier by the middle of the day.
Temperatures will climb steadily through the afternoon, but they could fall several degrees short of what they were earlier in the week, likely topping out near 96 degrees across the metro area. However, continued high humidity will still force heat index values up to around 103 degrees…
