If you’ve driven in or out of downtown San Antonio in the past two years, you’ve likely had to clench your jaw once or twice as you realized several lanes of traffic were suddenly converging into one. A state agency has been working on each bridge joint that keeps the interstates around San Antonio connected, and it’s meant some bumpy rides and frustrating traffic. But there’s good news in sight.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) confirmed to MySA that the yearslong process of securing bridge joints along Interstate 10, Interstate 35 and Interstate 37 is finally coming to a close. A spokesperson for the agency says it should wrap up by early October at the latest.
It’s a welcome end to an often frustrating process that’s plagued San Antonio drivers. Back in 2024, drivers hollered online about a TxDOT solution that avoided shuttered lanes but left the tail ends of sedans thumping along the highways.
