Abrupt layoffs hit News 4 and KABB in San Antonio — what we know so far

Two San Antonio sister TV stations have laid off multiple staff members, MySA has confirmed. Here’s what we know.

The layoffs hit News 4 (WOAI) and KABB (Fox News 29) on Wednesday, September 9. Sinclair Broadcast Group owns both stations, and they share some staff. A Sinclair spokesperson confirmed the layoffs to MySA, adding that they affected both properties in San Antonio.

“WOAI and KABB are committed to positioning the stations for long-term sustainability and we have made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of positions in our content center [newsroom],” the spokesperson said. “These changes will allow us to operate more efficiently and continue delivering exceptional local news and content to San Antonio viewers.
