SAN ANTONIO – Deputies have arrested a 24-year-old man after a fatal hit-and-run left a 37-year-old man dead on Hildebrandt Road.
- A 24-year-old man, Eduardo Eric Pena, has been arrested and charged with collision involving death, a second-degree felony, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Aug. 22, 2026, along Hildebrandt Road in Southeast Bexar County.
- The victim, Edward Eugene Finex, 37, was found deceased on Aug. 26, 2026; his body was discovered in a state of decomposition by a county public works employee on the side of a rural two-lane road without improved shoulders.
- Investigation at the scene recovered debris traced to a 2004-2008 Ford F-150; further evidence was gathered from video surveillance and patrol vehicle cameras, allowing deputies to track the truck and eventually locate it at Pena’s residence after it was sold by the previous owner.
- Pena admitted in his statement to hitting what he thought was an animal while driving home early in the morning; although he returned later to look, he did not find anything and did not report the collision.
- The vehicle had significant damage, including a broken passenger-side headlight and windshield, and deputies noted the investigation required extensive days-long video review and analysis; anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Diaz with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said Eduardo Eric Piña faces a second-degree felony charge of collision involving death after deputies found the body of Edward Eugene Finex in the 8500 block of Hildebrandt Road on Aug. 26. A county public works employee discovered the body at the roadside and notified law enforcement. Deputies said the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition and was later identified as Finex.
Investigators collected vehicle debris at the scene and, after reviewing the medical examiner’s findings, determined Finex died from being struck by a vehicle. Officials said the debris matched parts from a 2004-2008 Ford F-150. The sheriff’s Traffic Homicide Unit gathered video from multiple sources, including marked patrol vehicles from other agencies and identified matching trucks in the area starting on Aug. 22…
