A man will spend life in prison after a jury convicted him of capital murder in the 2019 stomping death of his cellmate at the Bexar County jail.
Shandrick Van Anthony Buckley, 39, has been on trial since last week. The jury left the 226th Judicial District courtroom following closing arguments shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday. As the panel continued deliberations past 6 p.m., state District Judge Benjamin Robertson told deputies to begin making arrangements to sequester them.
Shortly before 9 p.m., jurors signaled they had reached a verdict and found him guilty. The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office declined to seek the death penalty, so Robertson immediately sentenced Buckley to life in prison without the possibility of parole…
