Those classic orange-and-white stripes are a familiar sight for almost any Texan. But one small San Antonio-area city was still waiting for its own Whataburger location until the first one opened there this week. Here’s where.
Pearsall, a city of fewer than 10,000 people about 55 miles southwest of San Antonio, celebrated the opening of its first Whataburger on Monday, September 21. Pearsall Mayor George Cabasos celebrated the news on Facebook, writing, “IT’S OFFICIALLY WHATABURGER TIME, PEARSALL!” Festivities included a ribbon-cutting before doors officially opened at 11 a.m., and a crowd of hungry locals had already gathered. According to another post from Cabasos, the restaurant will give away prizes throughout its first week of operation.
The restaurant had been in the works for over a year, with a regulatory filing made with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration in August 2025. That filing set a construction end date for late October of this year, putting Monday’s opening way ahead of schedule.
