The rate of violent crime in San Antonio fell for the third consecutive year.
The decline reflects the overall crime trend in San Antonio, where the crime rate fell 13% from 2021 to 2025. According to an Express-News analysis of data from the San Antonio Police Department, the violent crime rate, expressed as offenses per 100,000 residents, fell nearly 24% between 2021 and 2025. But the decline varied by crime type: the rates for murder, aggravated assault and robbery fell, while the rate of reported rape offenses increased.
Murder, aggravated assault and robbery rates all peaked in 2022 before falling through 2025. The rape rate, however, rose from 74 per 100,000 residents in 2023 to 102 in 2025 — a 37% increase in two years. The 2025 rate for rape was the highest of the five-year period.
Aggravated assault accounted for the largest decline, falling from 438 incidents per 100,000 residents in 2021 to 300 in 2025 while remaining the most common of the four violent offenses tracked by SAPD. The robbery rate fell from 123 to 92, while the murder rate fell from 10 to 6. Together, those three rates declined by 173 incidents per 100,000 residents.
