City soon to start work on project to widen Bulverde Road

A stretch of Bulverde Road on the North Side is set to be widened from three to five lanes after San Antonio’s City Council approved a $16.6 million construction contract on Thursday.

The city expects to begin work this fall on the project, which will also add a six-foot sidewalk and a 10-foot shared-use path to either side of Bulverde between Redland Road and Green Spring Drive, about a half-mile south of Loop 1604, according to city documents.

The project is expected to be completed in summer 2028. When the work is done, the 0.7-mile length of Bulverde will feature two lanes going each way, as well as a center left-turn lane. It now has one lane each way, along with the center turn lane.
