Suspect in 8 Fatal Shootings in Chicago, Dead After Shooting Self During Police Confrontation

Romeo Nance, alleged perpetrator of Chicago suburban killings, dead after Police confrontation

Romeo Nance, the prime suspect in the shooting deaths of eight individuals in suburban Chicago, met a tragic end by taking his own life after a confrontation with law enforcement officials in Texas.

Joliet, Illinois, police announced via Facebook that 23-year-old Nance was located by U.S. Marshals near Natalia, Texas, around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. The encounter culminated in Nance fatally shooting himself after a standoff at a gas station, according to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.

Authorities in Texas received a call about a person suspected in the Chicago-area killings entering the county on Interstate 35, leading to the confrontation. The incident left a community on edge as police had earlier warned that Nance was still at large and should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

The victims, discovered at three separate residences on Sunday and Monday, were part of a grim tableau that unfolded in Joliet. Among the deceased was a 28-year-old man from Nigeria, identified by the Will County Sheriff’s Office, who succumbed to an apparent gunshot wound outside apartments in Will County on Sunday.
