“He had like 39 points and 18 rebounds” – Steve Kerr recalls Tim Duncan blaming himself after a loss despite playing well

After winning his third championship with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, Steve Kerr had the opportunity to play with Tim Duncan in San Antonio .

According to Kerr, he is no stranger to playing alongside dominant players, but the one thing that separated Duncan from the pack was his “genuine” way of making his teammates know that he was always accountable for the team’s performance.

“I remember we had a game one time where we lost the game, close game and he comes into the locker room he’s like, ‘Guys, that’s my fault man. It’s my fault. I got to be better.’ And he had like 39 points and 18 rebounds. I’m looking at the stats like, ‘Tim you know you played pretty well.’ [He’s like] ‘I got to be better.’ And it was genuine,” Kerr told Truth + Media in 2021 of Duncan.

Tim was a perfectly balanced

Looking at Duncan’s long list of accolades, ” The Big Fundamental ” had all the right to boast. However, Timmy’s humility never allowed him to wallow in flattery. Instead, he just continued to perform at the highest level and let his success do the talking for him.
