Over 80 Animals Rescued from Inhumane Conditions in Texas Puppy Mill Raid

San Antonio, TX – In a shocking case of animal cruelty, Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies have seized over 80 animals from a failed puppy mill in Southwest Side, San Antonio, Texas, run by 79-year-old Peyton Leon Wyrick. This gruesome discovery, made early Thursday morning, included mostly dogs, some poultry, and a goat. Tragically, eight dogs were found dead on the property.

The investigation, led by Sheriff Javier Salazar, revealed disturbing details of the conditions in which the animals were kept. The animals, forced to live outdoors in cramped, stacked kennels, were fed old hamburger and hot dog buns, often still in plastic bags. Pregnant dogs, about to give birth, were packed in with other adult dogs, creating a hazardous environment for the newborn puppies. Salazar noted the dire situation of animals lying in their own filth and consuming stale bread, highlighting the severity of the neglect.

As of now, the animals have been placed under the care of Bexar County Animal Control and are awaiting health check-ups. Although Wyrick is cooperating with the authorities, he has not yet been charged but could potentially face animal cruelty charges as the investigation continues.
