SAN ANTONIO – A police officer who was previously fired after being accused of excessive force has been awarded after getting his job back last year.
San Antonio Police Officer Andre Vargas, who returned to service after having been suspended as part of an excessive force investigation, has been awarded Officer of the Month for January of 2025.
Vargas was put on indefinite leave in 2020 after he used a taser on a man during a call in late 2019. Initial disciplinary documents said the use of the taser was “not needed” to make the arrest, and Vargas made no effort to deescalate the situation…
