Hail blankets San Antonio homes amid severe thunderstorm warning

Severe weather blanketed San Antonio on Monday, March 31, bringing hail showers to most parts of the Alamo City on what initially seemed like a sunny day. Believe it or not, spring is typically when conditions worsen statewide, with hail reports increasing tenfold compared to other times of the year.

An intense storm erupted over Medina County and made its way southeast, toward the Sea World area around 5:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service . Folks were urged to look out for “ping-pong” sized hailstones, 60 mph winds and frequent lightning. About a half hour later, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued over Leon Valley, Lackland Air Force Base and several other cities. It was estimated to expire at 6:45 p.m.
