North Side drivers take heed: the Texas Department of Transportation plans to close the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 around its crossing with Loop 1604 on Thursday night as part of a long-running construction project.
TxDOT will be closing the lanes between the interchange with Loop 1604 to Pat Booker Road between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. to install bridge beams, according to a news release from the agency.

A detour will be available, with drivers taking exit 172, for Loop 1604/Pat Booker Road, to get around the blocked lanes.
The construction work being done is part of TxDOT’s I-35 Northeast Expansion Program , also known as I-35 NEX. The project includes the construction of two elevated structures along I-35 on the Northeast Side that will support two new regular lanes and one carpool lane going in each direction…
