120 health care workers jobs at risk at Baptist Health System in San Antonio

After Baptist Health System opted not to renew a contract with a physician provider network, 120 health care providers’ jobs are in limbo in San Antonio. While officials say Baptist intends to keep on as many folks “as possible,” it’s unclear how many physicians and nurses could be out of a job in the coming months.

On Wednesday, April 2, the Texas Workforce Commission received notice from Envision Physician Services – the company which employees medical care providers and connects them with local hospitals and facilities – that 120 employees would be laid off by May 31. The reason: Baptist Health System opted not to renew a contract with the company after several years of working together, opting instead to go with a single physician provider network.

“We thank the Envision clinicians and support teammates for all they have done to heal and comfort patients in need,” an Envision spokesperson told MySA. “They have been a significant part of the hospital’s team, providing high-quality care and making a meaningful impact in the community. Making sure patients have access to care is our top priority, and we will work closely with the hospital to facilitate a smooth transition.”…
