Voters overwhelmingly approve major bond packages for Alamo Colleges, East Central ISD

SAN ANTONIO — In addition to Saturday’s headlining races for San Antonio mayor and City Council, Bexar County voters were also asked to weigh in on major ballot propositions impacting local school districts, Alamo Colleges and smaller county communities.

The two biggest ones – multimillion-dollar bond packages to enhance operations at East Central ISD and the Alamo Community College District – both overwhelmingly passed Saturday.

City of Balcones Heights – Proposition A

“Repeal of the adoption of the state law applicable to police officers that establishes collective bargaining if a majority of the affected employees favor representation by an employee’s association, preserves the prohibition against strikes and lockouts, and provides penalties for strikes and lockouts.”

East Central ISD – Proposition A

Voters passed East Central ISD’s $309 million bond that the district says will go towards building a new high school and two elementary schools. The bond package was created as a way for the district to respond to anticipated increased enrollment and a desire to create “energy-efficient facilities to accommodate increased student enrollment and support educational activities.”

Alamo Community College District – Proposition A

Alamo Colleges’ $987 million bond, which voters overwhelmingly supported, looks to prepare the local college network for what it expects will be a huge student population growth over the coming years…
