Alamo Cafe, a beloved Tex-Mex mainstay in San Antonio’s culinary scene, is mourning the loss of Michael “Mike” Hanlon, the brother of co-founder Pat Hanlon, who spent decades involved in the San Antonio business. To honor his impact, the local restaurant paid homage to Mike Hanlon with a post on social media Thursday morning.
“Mike’s journey with Alamo Cafe began in 1982, when he joined his brother Pat to help grow what would become one of San Antonio’s most beloved family restaurants. In those early years, Mike did it all- from managing the books by day to serving as our very first bartender by night,” reads a Facebook post by Alamo Cafe. “He later became Head Kitchen Manager and went on to open multiple locations, always leading with warmth, humility, and a deep love for hospitality.”
An obituary published on legacy.com indicates that Hanlon was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 22, 1952, and died on May 5, 2025, in San Antonio, just one year after retiring from the business. A private service for Hanlon will be held at a later date.
