Judge Mary Lou Alvarez receives public reprimand from state commission

State District Judge Mary Lou Alvarez has been disciplined by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct over a myriad of issues in multiple cases.

In a nine-page public reprimand, the commission rebuked Alvarez for “failing to comply with the law and maintain professional competence in the law,” engaging in conduct that “cast discredit upon the judiciary or the administration of justice” and for “failing to perform her judicial duties without bias or prejudice,” among other findings.

It found Alvarez failed to follow orders from a San Antonio appeals court before deadlines it imposed and cited 16 instances where the court opined that she had violated a section of the state constitution dealing with the separation of powers.
