San Antonio broadcast legend Deborah Knapp signed off for a final time on Wednesday, May 21. After nearly 50 years at KENS 5, she leaves behind a legacy and a lifetime of memories to share. Knapp began her career in 1977 after graduating with a journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She started her career in San Antonio at KSAT 12 as a “weekend weather girl” (yes, that was an actual role) and news intern. In 1978, Knapp was brought over to competing TV station KENS 5 to co-anchor the weekend newscast. Eventually she would go on to co-anchor the 5 p.m. newscast.
