‘It’s so good’: Beloved pizza joint returns to San Antonio over 30 years later

Much like Michael Corleone of The Godfather returning to America after a stint in Sicily, a fan-favorite pizza chain is back in San Antonio after its Alamo City locations closed 35 years ago.

Godfather’s Pizza opened its first San Antonio location in decades on Monday, June 23. The chain was booming in the 1980s, with hundreds of locations across the country and 20 in San Antonio alone, according to the San Antonio Report. But in the latter part of the decade, competition forced the chain to shutter its San Antonio locations, and it had yet to return. Until the new location’s co-owners, Juan Cuellar and Levi Rodgers, brought it back with nostalgia in full force, that is.

When the location was announced, hundreds of people flooded the company’s Facebook posts with comments reminiscing on good memories of the chain and their signature taco pizza…
