Shelters full, a mom and her 5 kids now sleep in broken-down car

An East Texas mother and her five children who escaped domestic violence are living in a broken-down vehicle.

Homeless organizations are working to help the woman, who shared her story with the San Antonio Express-News but asked not to be identified because she’s afraid her husband will find her.

The 30-year-old mother said that in March, she packed her children — ages 13 and younger — into a used Nissan Rogue, a compact SUV that she had purchased with a tax refund. The family traveled nearly 200 miles to San Antonio, hoping for safety and a fresh start…
