World Heritage status bestowed on San Antonio’s five missions 10 years ago

It took an international panel just 20 minutes to unanimously agree to bestow World Heritage Site recognition on San Antonio’s five missions.

The notable honor made by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on July 5, 2015, ended a nine-year quest for the coveted distinction.

The UNESCO honor — the first in Texas — meant the missions could bear the World Heritage Site inscription and that the sites had “outstanding universal value.”…
