They say progress is progress, no matter how small. And that sentiment certainly rings true for a pizzeria in San Antonio’s Southtown, as the eatery just inched closer to the No. 1 spot on 50 Top Pizza’s list for the best pizzerias in the country. While the pizzeria that’s known for its scratch-made, wood-fired ‘zas has landed on the list for four consecutive years, its most recent placement in the rankings is a sign of growth for the local pizza joint.
For its 2025 best in the U.S. rankings, the Italy-based international pizza guide placed Il Forno in 22nd — two places closer to the top spot from the 2024 rankings, when it landed in 24th. The guide noted Il Forno is “simple, but well-kept and comfortable.” Though Il Forno has more to offer than Neapolitan-style pies, such as appetizers and desserts, 50 Top Pizza praised the eatery for keeping the main thing the main thing: pizza.
