San Antonio human smugglers sentenced for deadly 2022 conspiracy that left 53 dead

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Two men were sentenced for their roles in a 2022 human smuggling operation that led to the deaths of 53 migrants. The sentencing follows a federal jury’s March conviction.

U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia sentenced Felipe Orduna-Torres, a 30-year-old known as Cholo, Chuequito/Chuekito, and Negro, to life in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Armando Gonzales-Ortega, a 55-year-old known as El Don and Don Gon, received an 83-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.
