San Antonio 11-year-old joined grandparents in Hunt. Flood swept them all.

When sunrise finally rose over the Casa Bonita neighborhood in Hunt on July 4, the cabin where the Jeffrey family went to sleep the night before was completely gone.

San Antonio couple Emlyn and Penelope “Penny” Jeffrey, both 70, were spending the night at their cabin along the Guadalupe River. With them was their 11-year-old granddaughter, Madelyn Jeffrey, who was known by family as “Emmy” and by friends as “Maddy.”

In just three hours on the morning of July 4, the river rose over 22 feet. When the cabin disappeared from the riverbank, ravaged by the flood, so did the three family members…
