The Historic Pearl District got its start back in 1883, when the Pearl Brewery created the footprint of the site — it is the home of Pearl Beer, Texas’s second most famous can behind Lone Star. The brewery closed in 2001 and developers quickly purchased the area. By 2010, the Culinary Institute of America opened a campus on the property, and there were a few restaurants. With the opening of Hotel Emma in 2015, foot traffic began to grow.
