Texas Ghost Chasers founder Alex Arredondo told MySA he could feel the paranormal energy and electricity coursing throughout downtown San Antonio’s Menger Hotel as soon as he walked in.
As the partner hotel of the Alamo, the Menger has a reputation for its spirits and specters. Constructed in 1857 at the site of the history-altering battle, it’s said to be the final home of dozens of ghosts. You may be familiar with some of these famous phantoms — Teddy Roosevelt is said to haunt the Menger bar, as he once used it as a Spanish-American War-era situation room, and the hotel has some of his clothing. Captain Richard King, the founder of King Ranch in South Texas, is said to occupy the suite that bears the King Ranch name, making it one of the most active rooms on the property.
When Texas Ghost Chasers braved an overnight stay on Friday, July 18, it wasn’t their first visit. Arredondo, a paranormal investigator of 20 years, had gone in 2019 with a different group and returned in 2023 with Texas Ghost Chasers. Back in May, the group stayed there again — this time, in the King Ranch suite — and felt an electric presence so strong one of their investigators had to take a break, Arredondo said.
