Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales is vowing solidarity with the Jewish community and said he is prepared to pursue strong legal action in response to a Castle Hills area graffiti case being investigated by police as a hate crime.
“I want to remind the Jewish community that they have a friend and supporter in me. If the perpetrator(s) are caught and there is sufficient evidence to charge those responsible, I intend to prosecute it as a hate crime,” Gonzales said in a statement to the San Antonio Express-News. “We will ask the court to assess appropriate punishment and hold them accountable.”
Gonzales explained that prosecuting a case as a hate crime would increase the punishment to a more severe offense.
