A pit bull owned by Simone Lyke’s boyfriend fatally mauled her in a prolonged, brutal attack that lasted over 23 minutes. Now, her grieving family is calling for justice and support through a newly launched GoFundMe campaign.

The attack occurred on July 23 at the Lennox Apartments, where Lyke lived with her boyfriend. According to witnesses and family members, the American Bully Pitbull named Pablo had a documented history of aggression and had previously bitten multiple people. Despite knowing the risks, the owner failed to properly restrain the dog.

Witnesses recounts harrowing experience

Lyke’s friend, who was present during the incident, recounted the horrifying moment when the dog turned on Simone after initially trying to attack her. “She screamed, ‘Call 911, he’s got my arm,’” the friend told reporters. Emergency responders arrived and attempted to subdue the dog with tasers, but Lyke had already suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of her arm and severe damage to her heart and lungs. She died four days later, on July 27, her birthday.

Her mother, Suzzette Lyke, drove 17 hours from Chicago to be by her daughter’s side. “It broke my heart to know that she had been mauled for 23 minutes, and nobody came,” she said.

In response, Lyke’s sister Lauren Early created a GoFundMe titled Help Honor Simone Lyke’s Memory and Seek Justice fundraiser aims to cover medical and funeral expenses, legal consultations, and travel costs for family members.
