$600K renovation transforms Shavano Park home from dark and heavy to light, modern

Sandra and Darren Rogers first renovated their Shavano Park home shortly after buying it 21 years ago, giving it a heavy and dark Tuscan look that, at the time, was so of-the-moment. As the years passed, however, the style had become tired, overdone and outdated. So, just after the pandemic, they decided it was time to renovate that earlier renovation.

“Being home for so long during COVID made us realize that the house had started to look and smell like grandma’s house,” said Sandra Rogers, who operates an asphalt maintenance and repair company with her husband. “It just felt dated.”

They considered selling but, after looking at several shiny new homes in shiny new neighborhoods, realized they couldn’t replicate their large, five-bedroom, 4½-bath home on 1¼ wooded acres in a neighborhood convenient to everything they want and need…
