Texas Judge rules Ten Commandments cannot go in the class room

Texas cannot mandate public schools in Houston, Austin and other selected districts to post the Ten Commandments in every classroom, a judge ruled Wednesday in a temporary decision blocking the state’s new mandate.

Texas becomes the third state where courts have halted recent legislation requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in schools.

A coalition of families from the affected school districts pursued a preliminary injunction against the law, set to take effect on Sept. 1. They argue the mandate breaches the First Amendment’s guarantees regarding the separation of church and state and the right to free religious practice…
