SAPD cop fired after Melissa Perez shooting now indicted, allegedly altered police records in case

An officer who was fired from the San Antonio Police Department for leaving work early before the shooting of Melissa Perez now facescriminal charges for altering internal police records related to the shooting.

A Bexar County grand jury indicted Steven Velasquez, 54, on Aug. 14 on a charge of tampering with a government record with intent to defraud or harm. He is accused of removing his name from an SAPD internal affairs report on an officer-involved shooting, according to the indictment.
