Fired officer has ‘violent temper,’ unable to do job, says police chief

SAN ANTONIO — Former San Antonio Police Department officer Matthew Belver went before an independent arbitrator Monday seeking to be reinstated to the Department. Belver’s attorney, Karl Brehm, argued Belver’s actions actions did not warrant dismissal.

Belver was fired in January of 2023 following a heated incident in which he called his boss a coward and used an expletive in the office. Brehm contended that while Belver’s reaction was “maybe not excusable,” it was “a bit understandable.”…
