Extreme heat and difficult access challenged firefighters working to extinguish blaze on southeast side

SAN ANTONIO — A fire broke out at a two-story apartment complex on the southeast side of town Sunday afternoon.

It happened around noon at the Spanish Crest apartments on Utopia Lane.

Six units were involved in the fire, three upstairs and three downstairs, according to SAFD. When first responders arrived at the scene, crews immediately worked to evacuate the residents.

Firefighters had to go inside the attic to check for possible extension of the fire. No injuries were reported…
